Wish I was in Hawaii

I just found out that the film I just finished mixing yesterday, is set to play at the Hawaii International Film Festival. Holy crap I wish I could to Hawaii to surf and
watch films. I just don’t have any money to make it there.

The film is This Will All Make Perfect Sense Someday, directed by Long Phan. And it looks like the shorts program that it’s playing on is pretty awesome. Julia Kwan has a film playing, as well as J.P. Chan, someone who’s work I’ve seen before at a festival a couple years ago.

It’s playing on Sunday, Oct. 12 @ 8:45pm (Shorts Program 4)

Chopin and Meeting the Perfect Girl

Here’s a beautiful and poignant scene from THIS WILL ALL MAKE PERFECT SENSE SOMEDAY, based on the famous Haruki Murkami short story ON MEETING MY 100% PERFECT GIRL ONE FINE APRIL MORNING. Starring Chris Dinh & Leni Ito. The film is directed by my buddy, Peter Phan, and I’m a fan of his beautiful flowing style. I was inspired by Chopin when I was composing for this scene…anyways, I’m getting back to work to finish writing the final scene of the film, enjoy!

Legendary Warriors release

My new album, Legendary Warriors, is released today. It is inspired by my love of martial arts films from Asia, so I set out to compose music that would evoke images of warriors from the past. It contains epic themes scored for orchestra with traditional instruments from China and Japan, including erhu (Chinese fiddle), bamboo flute, guzheng (Chinese string zither), taiko drums, and many more. A friend of mine that I gave a copy to, enjoyed the album so much, he got it on with a girl while listening to the album. True story. Maybe you will get lucky too if you buy my CD.

I also made a behind the scenes video, which was a lot of fun to do. Watch it on youtube (you can watch it in High Quality too):

Legendary Warriors is available on CD and mp3 formats from CD Baby:

Also available on DVD is, Asian Stories, a comedy that I scored earlier this summer. The film stars James Kyson Lee (Heroes) and Kathy Uyen (who is in the upcoming Harrison Ford film, Crossing Over) as a mismatched couple staying two steps ahead of disaster. Check it out on Amazon, Netflix, Blockbuster, or where ever it is you get DVD’s.

I will be conducting the world premiere of a suite of themes from J-ok’el: Legend of La Llorona. It will be performed by the Golden State Pops Orchestra on October 25th (8pm, Warner Grand Theater) in Los Angeles. The Halloween themed program will also feature music by Max Steiner, Bernard Herrmann, Henry Mancini, Jerry Goldsmith, Danny Elfman, and other notable film composers.

Also, this week on Comic News Insider podcast (Episode 155), I was mentioned in their segment called “The Top 3″, where the hosts each pick 3 cool new things to recommend. I was really entertained by the funny banter between the two hosts. Check out episode 155, I’m mentioned toward the end, so if you want to skip forward, it starts at an hour and 14 minutes in.
